A lot of readers would love their favorite book or series made into a movie. Seeing their favorite character come to life. However, a movie is usually two and a half hours. That is not enough time to bring the entire story to life. The producers usually must cut parts out to make it fit the time restraint. Readers most likely end up disappointed. The newest trend is making a book into a mini-series. This seems to allow the producers and writers to incorporate more of the original story. Thus, making the readers happy. I personally enjoy the mini-series angle. Sharp Objects, Normal People, and Little Fires Everywhere are some of my most recent favorites. I recommend reading the book first then checking out the mini-series.
