Review of That Summer by Jennifer Weiner

I want to start by saying that Jennifer Weiner is one of my favorite authors. I enjoy her characters and plots. She builds characters that feel real and that have flaws just like the rest of us. The stories are nicely paced and do not feel forced at any point.

That Summer was told from multiple perspectives. I thought it gave the story and characters more depth. I really enjoyed the different perspectives of the same event. I also liked how the characters dealt with their trauma. It felt more real than what is normally portrayed in fictional writing. I also liked how she touches on how people live their lives as they think they should, not how they would be genuinely happy. Fitting into a box that society has built is not the answer for everyone. I do not want to give away too much of the story or just recap the plot, as some reviewers do. There is nothing wrong with that type of review, that is just not my style. I would give this book 4.5 stars out of 5.
